Accessibility Statement

This page describes some of the features that have been incorporated into the site to aid accessibility for all users.

All pages produced on the Future Learning and Teaching website will conform to the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Double-A standard.

Standards compliance

  • Most pages on this site are Bobby AA approved, complying with all priority 1 and 2 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
  • Most Pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
  • Most Stylesheets on this site validate as CSS.

Access keys

Most browsers support jumping to specific links by typing keys defined on the web site. On Windows, you can press ALT + an access key; on Macintosh, you can press Control + an access key. Pressing ENTER will then take you to that page.

All pages on this site define the following access keys:

  • Access key 1 - Home page
  • Access key F - Ministerial Foreword
  • Access key A - About FLaT
  • Access key P - Projects
  • Access key E - Evaluation
  • Access key G - Application Form & Guidance
  • Access key L - Links
  • Access key C - Contact us
  • Access key 0 - Accessibility

Access Keys are available for each section in the site and have been set as the first letter of the section name, for example A is the access key for About FLaT, P is the access key for Projects.

Tab Indexing

Links in the site have been given a tab weighting to allow quick access to each link. The order for tab indexing in a page is as follows:

  • Content Links
  • Main Navigation
  • Breadcrumb Navigation
  • Sub Section Navigation

Links

Links have title attributes that describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target.

Images

  • All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.
  • Complex images include LONGDESC attributes or inline descriptions to explain the significance of each image to non-visual readers.

Visual design

  • This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.
  • This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers.
  • If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.
